Hasiru Mane in Bengaluru has initiated a Flood Assessment to map vulnerable areas of waste picker communities in response to rising urban flooding.
The aim is to comprehend challenges and develop mitigation strategies for these communities.
The Hasiru Mane team conducted the flood assessment in Hasiru Dala’s waste pickers community, surveying 32 communities. The study examined pre and post-flood resilience strategies through questionnaires, photos, and maps. In response, the initiative plans to enhance Bengaluru’s waste picker community resilience through mitigation plans, community solutions, and policy advocacy.
Hasiru Dala onboarded Fields of View to create a collaborative participatory tool, specifically designed to identify problems within informal settlements and formulate a community-level action plan in a collaborative approach.
