Closure of two Landfills at Coorg Gram Panchayat – Ponnampet & Karmadu

Hasiru Dala supported CCI following which Kodava Koota North America and CCI team decided to work at 10 GPs along the state highway 89 right from Thitimati, Devarapura, Gonikoppal, Aruvathoklu, Ponnampet, Hudekeri, T.Shettigeri, Srimangala and Kutta and setup DWCCs along with the SBM Coordinator.

Karmadu GP: Karmadu GP closed its landfill site to dump the waste. The land was reclaimed clearing legacy waste with a low-budget

Ponnampet GP Landfill Site: After four long years and the removal of more than 172 metric tonnes of landfill legacy waste, hours of planning and proceedings, a community park on the site is slowly and surely becoming a dream come true. Kudos to PDOs, ZP officials, CCI and Hasiru Dala team.

CCI and Karmadu GP, working together with the district administration, first closed the landfill after SWM Initiative (i.e., setting up DWCC and disposal mechanism) was done firmly. The ground personnel provided by Hasiru Dala made the operations smooth along with logistic approved waste vendor the exit ops were worked.

It took close to 4yrs for Hasiru Dala, CCI and GP, with the ZP support to finally clear the legacy waste and reclaim the land for community park use.

Zero Discharge ward – Bengaluru: Zero Waste Ward 177, J P Nagar, was chosen to experiment with strategy and create an implementation programme that could be replicated across the city. Later we scaled it up to Ward 44 Marappanapalya, Ward 99 Rajajinagar and currently which we initiated ward 117 Shanthinagar

Insitu Solid Waste Management Centre, City Armed Reserve (South), Adugodi: Hasiru Dala has undertaken the total implementation of the Solid waste management facility of the Adugodi Police Quarters CAR (South) Campus at Koramangala. The initiative is led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Administration). The facility has been installed as a corporate social responsibility initiative by GAIL India and IOCL. Carbon Masters joined hands with Hasiru Dala as technology partners in setting up the Biogas facility and composting unit.

ZWM Plant, Old Kesare, Mysore: ZWM activities were started in Old Kesire, Mysore in the year 2020. A series of educational activities were conducted to educate people regarding the importance of source segregation. This ZWM plant covers 9 wards. The waste collected from 9 wards of Zone 8 comprises about 2.5 tons every day. Of this, approximately 2.2 tons is wet waste and the remaining 0.3 tons is dry waste. The high-value dry waste is sold to authorized scrap dealers by the waste collectors. We compost the wet waste using the windrows technique to create high-nutrition compost and sell it to nearby farms at INR 2/- per kilogram.

SDM DWCC Dharwad: Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatha Medical College is a famous medical college in Hubli-Dharwad. The Campus has Dental Colleges, Hostels and Canteen. On this campus every day 700-750kg of Wet Waste and 400 – 500 kg of dry waste were generated. In June 2021 We started a Dry waste collection centre within the campus of SDM with 6 Waste Pickers from Saraswatipur of Dharwad and one supervisor from earlier working with the garbage yard we started Sorting, Now the generated wet waste is supplied to the piggery, and only dry waste is going to our dry waste collection centre. 750 kg of wet waste and 400 kg of dry waste is generated every day. There are a total of 3700 people there and most of the waste comes from the hospital.
